Home Buyer Education Information

Housing Resources is a HUD approved Housing Counseling Agency. We provide housing counseling services to residents of the Western Slope of Colorado. The program serves as a supportive base for families seeking these services, and furthermore, as an organizational core program in supporting future first time home owners and current home owners. Our mission is to provide counseling assistance to Western Slope residents by achieving and maintaining the goal of homeownership.

Financial Coaching:

This unique Financial Capability Coaching is focused on improving your financial behaviors and attitudes – making it easy for you to achieve your financial goals and independence.

Confidential one-on-one sessions with specially-trained financial counselors that will help you:

  • Identify your financial goals
  • Create your action plan
  • Track your progress
  • Establish/rebuild your credit
  • Make good financial decisions
  • Get on the right path to becoming a homeowner

Financial Capability Workshops:

Provide support along the way with tools, reminders, workshops and resources that will motivate encourage and challenge you to achieve positive behavior changes.

Future homeowners in a Home Buyer's Education Class!

Housing Resources provides service to families through individual or group counseling services. While assisting families or individuals in enhancing home management skills for homeowners or renters, Housing Resources believes that people must become better educated and knowledgeable about the entire process. This approach will provide genuine long-term benefits for future generations while providing immediate benefits in upward mobility and stability in home management.

Services include:

  • Money management and budgeting
  • Use of credit and procedures for correcting credit
  • Home maintenance and repair with referrals to available resources
  • Assistance in obtaining access to home rehabilitation loans
  • Education and assistance in the use of utilities/energy consumption, e.g. Weatherization and LEAP program
  • Assistance in identifying other community resources for home improvement education and neighborhood improvement

Homebuyer Education (HBE) Classes:

Buying a home is often times the biggest financial decision of one's life. Housing Resources is here to assist and prepare first time homebuyers in becoming successful homeowners.  Homebuyers who attend Homebuyer Education are 30% less likely to have a foreclosure than those who do not participate.

By attending a free, in-person Housing Resources Homebuyer Education class, you can expect to learn about the following:

  • Recognize how your credit relates to home buying
  • Determine how much home you can afford 
  • Budget for the upfront and ongoing expenses of homeownership
  • How to obtain down payment assistance

Home Buyer Education Classes: In person and online

Home Buyer Education (HBE) in person class schedule and online class information:

Classes are held in Grand Junction at Mesa County Workforce Business Center, 520 29 1/2 Road, Room D, Grand Junction, CO 81504.
This is a one day session from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on the following dates:

June 15, Saturday, 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
July 13, Saturday, 9:00 a.m.
3:30 p.m.

Classes are held at Partners in Delta. Formerly Delta Housing Authority, 511 E. 11th Street, Delta, CO 81416.
This is a one day session from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on the following dates:

July 20, Saturday, 9:00AM - 3:30PM

Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) approved classes around the State.

Housing Resources also offers HBE online ehome classes for $99.00 for the first person and $50 for each additional borrower.

  • Each borrower must take the online class individually
  • The online class generally costs $99.00 for the borrower and $50.00 for each additional coborrower using the same provider (a discount code is e-mailed to coborrower once borrower registers with a coborrower.)
  • Online classes require a post-class housing counseling session completed over the phone
  • Housing Resources has a Spanish Speaking HBE counselor

 

Post-Purchase Classes:

Post-purchase education is a vital part of homeowner education, helping to support successful long-term homeownership.

HRWC provides Post Purchase Education Program offers group education to homeowners focusing on sustaining homeownership; teaching homeowners how to manage their property as an asset and use their equity responsibly while learning how to maintain their properties to promote safety and prevent future costly repairs as well as education on community resources and opportunities for community involvement.
