Weatherization grants benefit seven counties

Housing Resources of Western Colorado has been awarded $2.8 million in grants to provide free weatherization services to more than 400 homeowners in seven Western Slope counties.
The weatherization program can include any of the following actions:
Insulation in attics and walls
Furnace replacement
Furnace safety testing
Refrigerator replacement
Sealing air leaks
Installation of compact fluorescent light bulbs
Energy audit
Storm windows and doors
Energy conservation information.
Residents of Delta, Gunnison, Mesa, Montrose, San Miguel, Ouray and Hinsdale counties may apply for the services.
The organization also received $254,000 from NeighborWorks America to rehabilitate two of Housing Resources’ rental properties.
The weatherization grant includes $1.8 million in federal stimulus funding.
