MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) - The Governor's Energy Office is sending more than $2.5 million to Mesa County.

The money is being used to weatherize more than 500 income-qualified homes throughout a seven county region. About $1.8 million of that money is from federal stimulus funds.

Weatherization includes putting in new insulation, furnace replacement as well as storm window and door installation.

Katie Wilson with Housing Resources says, "There's definitely a need for it in the Valley and it being a free service to income-qualified residents is terrific."

Housing Resources also received $250,000 from Neighbor–Works America. That money will be used to improve two rental properties owned by the non–profit.

Anyone wanting to apply for free home weatherization should call housing resources. Their number is 241-2871 ext. 101.
